With his paintings David conveys a lived experience, either directly on site of the subject or recalled later in the studio through memory. He begins directly on site, brushing in a compositional drawing and then proceeds to paint the subject. He transforms it into a painting of his experience based in the qualities of the paint and how he manipulates its character. His paintings feature a strong structural composition, high-keyed colors, energetic brushstrokes, balance of lights and darks, and fluid movement over the composition.

 

Born near Conway, Arkansas in 1943.
